Do it in this order

  1. Check your nationality against the current unilateral visa-free list on the National Immigration Administration site.
  2. If not covered, check whether your route qualifies for 240-hour transit — you need an onward ticket to a third country.
  3. If neither applies, apply at a China Visa Application Service Centre (CVASC) in your country; allow 4–10 working days.
  4. Carry a printed hotel address in Chinese on arrival — immigration and taxi drivers may ask for it.

Questions people actually ask

Can I work remotely on a visa-free entry?
Visa-free entry is for tourism, family visits and business visits. Formal employment requires a Z visa; remote work for a foreign employer sits in a grey zone and is not covered by any tourist entry.
Does the 30-day visa-free clock start on arrival?
It starts the day you enter and is counted in calendar days, not 24-hour blocks.
