The plan

One headline sight a day, with the evening left for food. Crossing a Chinese city takes longer than the map suggests; this plan does not pretend otherwise.

  1. Day 1

    The Bund and Lujiazui skyline

    Eat: Xiaolongbao soup dumplings

  2. Day 2

Former French Concession and Wukang Road

    Eat: Shengjianbao

  3. Day 3

Yu Garden and the Old City

    Eat: Hongshao rou (braised pork)

  4. Day 4

    Power Station of Art

Eat: Crab roe noodles in autumn

  5. Day 5

    Zhujiajiao water town

    Eat: Scallion oil noodles

  6. Day 6

    Shanghai Museum

    Eat: Xiaolongbao soup dumplings

  7. Day 7

Slow morning, neighbourhood walk and a long lunch before departure

    Eat: Shengjianbao
