What to have ready
- An ordinary passport valid for at least six months beyond your planned stay.
- A confirmed onward or return ticket where the route requires it; a return to the same country does not satisfy the transit rule.
- The hotel address for your first night and a rough itinerary for immigration.

If the route does not apply
Apply for the appropriate visa before travelling. A standard tourist (L) visa is handled by the Chinese Visa Application Service Centre in your country; work and study need a different category. Do not book a non-refundable flight before the visa is issued.
